Protecting Your Investment with Expert Generator Care

Generator Maintenance & Service

A standby generator is only as dependable as the care it receives. Like any engine-driven equipment, generators need regular service to perform when it matters most -- during a power outage. Powers Guaranteed offers comprehensive maintenance plans and expert repairs for all major brands, whether we installed your unit or not.

Why Maintenance Matters

Your generator sits idle most of the time, running brief weekly exercise cycles to stay ready. But internal components still wear down. Oil degrades, filters clog, and battery connections corrode. Without routine service, a generator that seems fine during its weekly test can fail under the sustained load of a real outage -- exactly when you need it most.

Regular maintenance also protects your manufacturer warranty. Most Generac and Kohler warranties require documented service at recommended intervals. Skipping maintenance could void your coverage right when an expensive repair comes along.

Service Agreement Options

Whether you purchased your generator from us or not, our team can provide expert service. Give your standby generator more staying power with a planned maintenance agreement.

Includes 1 major service visit per year. Our technicians perform a complete inspection and tune-up covering:

  • Inspect essential generator parts
  • Replace oil, filters, and spark plugs
  • Inspect and adjust high wear items, belts, and critical components
  • Verify operational output and perform safety shutdown check
  • Inspect ATS (if accessible)

This is the minimum most manufacturers require to maintain warranty coverage.

Includes 2 service visits per year -- one major and one minor. The major service covers the full checklist above. The minor service visit catches issues that can develop between annual intervals, particularly in harsh New England weather. Ideal for generators that see frequent run time or are exposed to heavy dust, pollen, or salt air.

Our most comprehensive protection plan. Includes all scheduled maintenance plus priority emergency response during outages. When widespread outages hit and wait times for non-agreement customers can stretch for days, NWPG members move to the front of the line. If your generator experiences a problem during an outage, a technician will be on-site within four hours. If the issue cannot be repaired with the parts our trucks carry in stock, we will deliver a temporary generator to keep your home powered while we source the parts needed for the repair.

*NWPG requires an active Semi-Annual Maintenance Agreement and 24/7 Remote Monitoring.

Extended oil monitoring and replacement service for generators that run frequently. This ensures your generator always has proper oil level, preventing engine damage from extended operation during prolonged outages. After twelve hours of continuous run time, a technician is automatically dispatched to check the oil level and top it off at no additional cost. This is especially valuable during major storm events when your generator may run for days at a time.

**NWOG requires an active Semi-Annual Maintenance Agreement and 24/7 Remote Monitoring.

We keep an eye on your generator around the clock using connected monitoring technology. If your unit reports a fault code or fails a scheduled exercise, our team is notified automatically -- often before you even know there's a problem.

***Remote Monitoring requires a cellular connection. A cellular service plan is included with the monitoring agreement.

Benefits of a Service Agreement

  • Prevent breakdowns -- Catch small issues before they become expensive repairs
  • Preserve unit life -- Regular maintenance adds years of reliable service
  • Priority scheduling -- Agreement holders move to the front of the line during widespread outages
  • Warranty protection -- Documented service history keeps your manufacturer warranty intact
